Moto Guzzi Australia, part of the John Sample Automotive group, launched its latest fare in Sydney last Friday, August 28 — the new Audace and Eldorado California 1400 derivatives.
Priced at $24K rideaway, the Audace is the 'muscle' part of the new equation, and the customisation over the standard California 1400 Custom includes fully adjustable rear shocks with remote reservoirs, flat, wide bars, matte black paint instead of chrome, and footpegs instead of footboards.
Miguel Galluzzi, the designer in charge of the PADC (Piaggio Group Advanced Design Center) in Pasadena California, introduces the new Audace like this: This bike speaks louder than any words about the more modern soul and future of the brand from Mandello. All you have to do is look at it and ride it and all your questions are answered. Sitting astride this imposing bike, starting the powerful V-twin and riding down the road is all you need to understand what Moto Guzzi represents today. The new Audace is a perfect interpretation of the most genuine Moto Guzzi spirit.”
Other features include a circular headlight, metallic radiator grille, short megaphone exhaust.
Thanks to the use of a secondary air system and a specific catalytic converter, the Audace is the first of Euro 4 approved Moto Guzzi models. The Audace shares the same 1400cc transverse V-twin as the $23,500 rideaway Eldorado, which produces 121Nm at 3000rpm and has cardan final drive.
The Eldorado has 16-inch spoked wheels, gem-shaped taillight, bullhorn handlebars, LED daytime running light, 'generous' footboards and a 740mm seat height.
Both bikes have cruise control, variable engine maps, traction control and anti-lock braking, and there are accessories galore including plenty of aluminium add-ons, fork covers, engine guards, exhaust kits, windshields and leather panniers.
