Lane-splitting debate heats up

Congratulations to the Motorcycle Riders Association of Australia (MRAA) in Melbourne, which recently ran a successful protest ride against the National Transport Commission's proposed national ban on lane-splitting.

Approximately 300 bikes showed up for an event which gained a very strong story on that evening's Channel 7 news.

Meanwhile the Victoria Automobile Chamber of Commerce has released a report condemning the proposed ban, saying it will have a negative impact on safety.

The Motorcycle Council of New south Wales has released its submission on the proposal and it can be viewed on the web at http://www.mccofnsw.org.au/a/166.html.

The rule and its regulatory impact statement can be seen at the National transport Commission website at http://www.ntc.gov.au/RFCList2004.aspx.

Bikepoint has also put up a submission, which can be seen at http://www.allmoto.com/lanesplit.html.
